Webinar, Wednesday, May 21, 2025
This webinar, coordinated by Dr. Serelina Coluzzi and Prof. Anna Falanga, respectively Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editor of the journal Blood Transfusion, was organized to launch the special issue of the journal (Blood Transfusion, Vol. 23, No. 1, 2025), dedicated to Patient Blood Management (PBM) — an international program aimed at promoting the appropriate use of blood transfusions, a precious and limited resource.
The issue focuses particularly on situations of severe bleeding in emergency settings, where rapid intervention is required to stop hemorrhage and promptly manage anemia and blood coagulation, all while adhering to scientific evidence and ensuring clinical appropriateness.
Within this context, special attention is given to hemorrhagic emergencies in patients undergoing anticoagulant therapy, a population inherently at high risk of bleeding.
Anna Falanga will moderate the discussion with speakers Domenico Girelli (University of Verona), Ivo Beverina (ASST Valle Olona, Busto Arsizio Hospital), and Massimo Franchini (Carlo Poma Hospital, Mantua), and will present on the currently available antidotes to reverse the effects of anticoagulant drugs, highlighting their correct use in anticoagulated patients experiencing major bleeding.
